Dear Friends,
The CRL Rights Commission is providing the faith communities of South Africa with a rare and important opportunity to participate in a Religious Freedom Survey.
This Survey is intended to gauge the health of religious freedom in South Africa. It will result in an official Report, which will carry significant legal weight in guiding future Government policy and laws.
The deadline for submissions is 12:00 on Friday, 29 September 2023.
FOR SA is fully supportive of this initiative and we urge and encourage all religious organisations and people of faith to complete this Survey. Do not miss this opportunity to have your say on some of the most critical areas where, in our view, our constitutionally guaranteed right to religious freedom is (or has been) in danger of erosion.
- As an example, one question asks whether current/existing government policies and or legislation (e.g. PEPUDA or the “Equality Act”) properly consider, respect and protect the right to religious freedom.
- Another very important question, asked of parents, is whether they believe that they can raise their own children according to their own values, faith, and beliefs without interference from current Government policies, legislation, guidelines or litigation.
To these and some other questions included in the Survey, FOR SA would answer a resounding “No!”
However, we are simply one voice – which is why we encourage you to complete this Survey now while it is in front of you. To assist you in responding to some of the questions in the Survey, the FOR SA website has a special page, which includes our draft responses to these questions for your information and consideration.

So – please invest five minutes to complete this survey before the deadline date of Friday, 29 September 2023.
Yours for faith and freedom!
